NRG Production Well Examination

Well Examination is the Independent Assessment, on behalf of a Well Operator, to verify that wells are being adequately designed, constructed, operated and maintained in accordance with the appropriate industry standards in order to reduce the risks of a well release to as low as reasonably practicable.

As with well design and construction, in the UK, Production Well Examination is a legal requirement as defined by Regulation 18 of the Offshore Installations and Wells (Design and Construction, etc) Regulations.

Production Well Examination applies to production/injection wells on an offshore installation, at a land well production facility or subsea production/injection wells. It follows the well handover to operations and is carried out in accordance with the Well Operator's Well Examination Scheme which should cover the production (injection) well operations phase of the well's lifecycle.

Production Well Examination is targeted at the pressure boundary of the well to ensure that this is adequate throughout the operations phase and includes an examination of all the pressure containment equipment that forms part of the well to ensure that this is suitable.

Production Well Examination, is normally undertaken on an annual basis and ensures that the Well Operator has an adequate Production Well Integrity Management System and that all the wells are in compliance with the System's well-related performance standards which are designed to reduce the risk of a release from the well. These performance standards will generally conform with normal Good Industry Practice.

An annual PWE report is prepared for the Well Operator's management and this covers all wells that are operational.

NRG are also able to provide advice on appropriate Production Well Integrity Management Systems.
